Josephine’s mother was a prostitute who met the Ladies of Hope and gave her life to Jesus Christ. She was learning how to sew so she could support Josephine and herself when a former client tried to force her back into sex. When she refused, the man went into a drunken rage and beat her to death.
We brought Josephine to her grandparents and family but none of them would take her in because, in their eyes, Josephine was the seed of a whore and they wanted nothing to do with her.
Home of Hope immediately took her in.
Josephine is doing okay, but she is still working on her lack of joy. Because her mother used to kick her out of the house whenever men came in, she still finds it hard to trust people. Sometimes she gets so terrified that she will run away if spoken to harshly. We haven’t been able to send her to school yet because of that.
