Mercy, female, 7 years old
Mercy’s mother, Sarah, was a prostitute who contracted AIDS. When her father learned that her mother had HIV/AID he left them. During this period Mercy and her siblings were forced to leave school and stay home for a year.
Mercy’s mother joined the Ladies of Hope and accepted Jesus as her Savior. When she died from the AIDS, there was no one to look after Mercy and they would have had to survive on the streets. Pastors Noah and Diana brought them into the Homes of Hope to stay.
Mercy is still depressed and not lively. It has been hard for her to trust others, but she is beginning to come alive and start playing with the other kids. Her great wish is to become an engineer in computers.
