Shalom, 15 years old
When Shalom turned 14 years her mother got sick. When she went to the hospital they decided to take a blood test and they found that she was HIV positive. When her mother came back, she said that Shalom would have to carry on the work of prostitution that she used to do and take care of her. Shalom was forced to leave school to become a prostitute, but later decided to leave home and her mother, who died during that dark time.
Shalom tried to work in homes as a maid, but no one would hire her because of what she had been. She didn’t know where to turn until she found the Ladies of Hope. She joined them and became a Christian. Because she was so young, they brought her to the orphanage.
Shalom still feels like she is defiled and not right. That leaves her feeling depressed and rejected. She is getting better and is almost ready to go back and pursue her education again.
